University of New Haven transfer Ethan Simmon commits to Stony Brook
Stony Brook land Division II transfer that can stretch the floor.
Stony Brook Seawolves has landed a commitment from Division II transfer Ethan Simmon.
The 6-foot-5 forward considered several schools, including Chattanooga, Wagner, Canisius, and Central Connecticut State University. He developed a strong relationship with Stony Brook's staff during the recruiting process. "I like what they envisioned for me, and their player development plan really stuck out to me," said Simmon
Simmon spent three seasons with the University of New Haven Chargers. After redshirting the 2022-2023 season, he was named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team, where he averaged 10.3 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 39.3% from three. As a redshirt sophomore, Simmon started in 29 games, averaging 12.5 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 35.1% from three.
Reflecting on his time at the University of New Haven, the newest Seawolf added, "I am so appreciative for my time at New Haven. Every single person had a positive impact on me, from my coaches and teammates. I wouldn't have traded my three years for anything, and I definitely wouldn't be the person or player without them and those moments.
Simmon's primary focus is getting stronger, faster, and tightening up his overall game this offseason. He takes pride on the defensive end of the floor and is confident in this three-point shot. "Off the court, I just want to be a good teammate, build close relationships with everyone, and represent the school in a positive way," Simmon said.
Under head coach Geno Ford, the Seawolves are in a rebuilding phase after graduating four seniors and losing three players in the transfer portal.
Simmon is ready to make the jump to the Division I level and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
